Serve Sombody

Romans 6:16 Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?

A verse such as this one can evoke a very negative reaction, not only in the non christian but also in the christian. The idea that we must serve someone just doesn’t sit well with our humanity. We like to think that we are capable of serving our self deciding for ourselves what is good and what is bad.

I find it ironic that the things that people often do when they are liberated from the tyranny of Christianity are quite self destructive things. And yet we fool ourselves into thinking that I am doing these things because I know whats best for me. The whole time not realizing that we are in fact being told what to do.

And while if it comes form the Bible it creates friction in our souls, if it comes from some other source, we idolize the one who told us and join in with them in admitting the Truth that we claim doesn’t exist.

“You may be an ambassador to England or France
You may like to gamble, you might like to dance
You may be the heavyweight champion of the world
You may be a socialite with a long string of pearls

But your gonna have to serve somebody
Yes, indeed your gonna have to serve somebody
Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But your gonna have to serve somebody”
